Codex in-app browser
The macOS launcher loads AnyWebMCP into Codex's built-in browser and turns on WebMCP support for you.
Use Codex's native site-tool support
Codex can discover WebMCP tools in its built-in browser. The launcher starts your installed ChatGPT desktop app with the AnyWebMCP extension and the required WebMCP feature enabled. It uses your regular Codex profile, including its login and browser data, without modifying the installed app.
Quit the regular Codex app before starting the launcher. Both apps would otherwise try to use the same profile at the same time.
Install the launcher
-
Check the requirements
Use macOS 13 or newer and install the current ChatGPT desktop app at
/Applications/ChatGPT.app. -
Quit Codex
Quit the ChatGPT desktop app. If it remains open in the Dock, right-click it and choose Quit.
-
Download the launcher
Open GitHub Releases and download
codex-webmcp-macos-universal-<version>.zip. Unzip the archive. -
Open the launcher
Open Codex WebMCP and accept the normal macOS first-open confirmation. The launcher starts Codex with AnyWebMCP and WebMCP support enabled.
-
Verify the tools
Open
x.comorwww.linkedin.comin the built-in browser. Ask Codex to list the site tools available on the page, then compare them with the website catalog.
Run Codex with the extension yourself
You can skip the launcher and pass the extension to Codex on the command line. Download and
unzip openwebmcp-extension-<version>.zip from GitHub Releases, or build it from the source repository with Node.js 20 or newer.
Quit Codex, replace the extension path below with an absolute path to the folder that contains manifest.json, then run:
open -n "/Applications/ChatGPT.app" --args \
--load-extension="/absolute/path/to/extension" \
--enable-features=WebMCPTesting This command uses your regular Codex profile. Run it again whenever you want to start Codex with AnyWebMCP enabled.
